From Peter Maunder, "The Morgan family were based in Tiverton in the eighteenth century but have left very few records, so I don't know much about them at all. They were small-scale exporters of cloth. From my study of the Exeter port records, I find that Thomas Morgan was exporting serge between 1719 and 1738, which fits well with the appearance of this seal."
See Peter Maunder’s comprehensive history of the Tiverton cloth trade.
The fullest collection of Tiverton cloth seals (about thirty) is on permanent display in Tiverton Museum.
