Emile Bernard's first name was actually Nicolas - Gustave. He was born in Liège on 20.06.1867 and died in 1935. He was a gunsmith, gun manufacturer and blind in the left eye. The weapons factory of Emile Bernard and company limited was situated at 54 rue Mont Saint Martin. He was on the fire arms approval board (Banc d'Epreuves) of Liege from 1900 to 1919. In 1935, presumably after the death of her husband, Mrs. Bernard, born in Liege on 15/07/1868, took up the reins of the company which became Manufacture d'Armes BERNARD E. As his widow she remained on the fire arms approval board (Banc d'Epreuves) until 1942.
The above was taken from BERNARD Emile & Cie where a picture of him and his wife can be found along with many of the guns they produced.
