Russian Bale Seal, Baltic States, Flax, NP, 1757
Russian Bale Seal, 1757, Image by StuE, Found by Mary Col Club.
Found in East Anglia, 30mm, 24.8g.
Russian Flax bale seal.
From Ged Dodd, "No 50 .. NP ... SB12ЛO .. 1757
An unknown flax inspector working out of 50 post on the Baltic Sea coast in the port of St Petersburg, Narva, Memel, Libau, Reval or Riga in 1757.
The Grower/Owner/Agent initials are SB and there were 12 flax plants in the bale. I am tempted to think that ЛO = LO = ЛЬНЯНОЕ OTБOPHЬII = Select grade flax ...
There is another SB12ЛO on a No 28 seal in 1755 ...
... The seal is at IDS 662 on here - The PeaceHavens Project, Seal Numbers 601 - 700"
